The Kootenay Ice dream run came to an end in the CHL's second-to-last game of the season Friday night as the Mississauga Majors edged the Ice 3-1 to move on to the Memorial Cup final Sunday against the Saint John Sea Dogs.
The Ice continued on their Memorial Cup theme and found themselves down early when Cody Eakin was assessed a boarding penalty on the first shift. Devante Smith-Pelly wired a wrist shot on the ensuing power play to put the Majors up 1-0 just over a minute into the game.
Late in the second Smith-Pelly did it again with another great wrist-shot from the slot that beat Nathan Lieuwen for a 2-0 lead.
Joe Antilla got the Ice back in the game with a last second goal on the power play to half the Major lead.
The Major would get the empty-netter to advance to the final with 55 seconds left.
Not a lot of thoughts right now other than the missed opportunities of the Ice going 1-7 on the PP and giving up four minors in the first period.
JP Anderson was the difference when needed but quality chances weren't abundant for the Ice on this night.
Physical game was on the Majors side tonight as the Ice were on the receiving end of a many of the game's hits.
All n all a dream season that fell just short of the Memorial Cup final, not a lot to hang their heads about.
Will have some more on the Ice finish the season and a look ahead to next year over the weekend.

The Fan Club has arranged a welcome home rally for the ICE today (Saturday) at 1:00 p.m. at the Rec Plex. Let's get out there and show this team of ours how proud they have made us and that we support them no matter what. Hope to see you all there. If you read this, please pass the word. Cheer loud and proud for our Kootenay ICE!
So proud of our Kootenay ICE!!! Can't wait for next year.
I can't wait either. The best way to honour this team next season is to get as many season tickets sold as possible. So come on Cranbrook. Get out there and buy those tickets. Let's open next season with huge crowds and get our team going right off the bat. Here is to another awesome season coming up! GO ICE GO!
Congrats ! As a winterhawk fan I really enjoyed this blog. Too bad I did not find the blog until the WHL Finals....
I look forward to this blog from here on out.

I purchased my first season ticket last week and was blown away at how rude the lady at the office was, I couldn't believe it! She quite effectively let me know how much I was inconveniencing her with my order. You'd think that a business crying for ticket holders would at least show a hint of customer service, let alone appreciaion to a paying customer. If this was any other transaction and not such an emotional purchase for me I would have told them to take a leap. I know I'm rambling but I can't help it, I'm so shocked and angry.
Hey Anonymous. I'm sorry about your experience. Please don't apologize; you are not rambling. Please note, however, that the girl you speak of (if it is who I am thinking of) is only there covering for the regular office manager who is off on maternity leave. She will no longer be there once she returns. I am so glad, though, that you are now a season ticket holder. I hope you don't let this experience deter you from supporting this awesome hockey team. I promise your experience of watching a high calibre hockey team like the ICE in action will override any negative experience you had with the front office! But I'm sure you already know that. GO ICE GO!
