Ice dump Pats 5-1

Cody Eakin, er, Kootenay got their 36th win of the season last night in Regina as Eaking notched the Hat-trick in the Ice' 5-1 win over the Pats. Highlites are here while Greg Harder of the Regina Leader-Post has coverage here.
The Wheat Kings gave the Ice a hand by edging the Tigers in OT, 6-5.

Both the Tigers and Ice are tied at 75 points, six back of the Rebels who beat the Hitmen 4-1 last night.

D Luke Paulsen returned from a concussion after missing seven games and was +2. C Steele Boomer will likely return for the Tigers and Blades next weekend at the Plex while D Joe Leach is still a couple of weeks away. Rookie D Jeff Hubic played in his hometown last night and returned to Midget while forward Brendan Hurley was a healthy scratch. Kootenay's in Swift Current to play against the Rider-clad Broncos. 6PM on the Drive 102.9

What an exciting weekend ahead of us. I even got into some friendly banter with a Blades fan on one of our forums. Sure hope everyone stays healthy and they have a chance to come up with some good line chemistry.

Well, it was great to see the Ice in prime time on the big screen. It's too bad the CHL don't get more coverage instead of some of the sports that are televised.

Having said that, I really think we are getting out coached-I see a lot of rookie coach mistakes and our template seems to be the same as last year-which will result in a quick first round exit.

I said last year and I'll say again this year, if we continue to run our horses into the ground, night after night-come playoffs the tanks will be empty and the injuries will pile up...We all know the intensity of playoff hockey.

Our bench management needs some work; we have to find ways to use our dept...A 7 or 8 forward approach against weak teams works well but against the elite of the league we struggle.

Case in point-our game last week against Saskatoon, they used their entire bench. They beat us using Sutter, Seimens, Thrower, A. Elliot and I'm sure if Benson wasn't injuried he would have played a huge part as well. Last night, we got beat by RD using Siwak,Muller,Dumba,Mayor and not to mention Nugent-Hopkins. The one thing I noticed-Nugent-Hopkins dosn't penalty kill-keeping him rested for 5 on 5 and PP.

I think we would be better served if we used Rossignol and Benoit on PK (not together)and Hurley on the PP, I think he would work out just fine in front of the net. As well, Teskey when we play back to back. Incorporating these guy's would bring up team morale and give a much needed rest to our go too guy's. In the big picture, it would take us further into the playoffs.

On our 3rd line we really need a guy that will open up the ice/lanes for Boomer and Ismond-Kinda like what Fraser and Czerwonka does for Rhinehart and what Antilla and King does for Eakin. I think Hurley or Montegomery would be a good fit...Hurley is a better skater so I would give the nod to him-we just need to restore his confidence. I think these minor adjustments would give us a better chance of winning.

Sorry, for the rambling but I dearly love the Ice and have been a season ticket holder since they moved here. I want to watch hockey in April!!! and it's far too early for 18 holes at CGC. I will be severly pissed if we get MJ and exit again this year in the first round, especially with a team this deep.

Again, not looking for a rebut-just looking at the big picture.

That's too funny. Almost word for word our discussion at morning coffee.

How can you come on here talking about what you said last year posting as anonymous. Make up a fake name to make yourself a little credible.
